Welcome to Blofield Weather.
The station is located in the village of Blofield, Norfolk, UK at approx. 53.3N, 1.4E and 17m. above sea level.
Data are collected using a Davis Vantage Pro system with additional sensors. The anemometer and wind vane are mounted on a 10m. mast and have a generally clear horizon except in a NE direction, where trees, 8-10 m. high, 60m from the mast, may cause some turbulence in the summer. The mast also carries the sunshine sensor.
All the other sensors are situated in an open garden. The soil temperature and moisture sensors are buried in bare earth 500mm. below the soil surface. The soil moisture is measured in centibars, where 0 is complete saturation and 200 is absolute dryness. The normal growing range is 15 – 80cb.
The cloud base is in metres and is the height at which cloud can be expected to form.
All daily measurements start at midnight. Rainfall is in mm. and all temperatures are in deg. C. Evaporation indicates the amount of moisture (in mm. rain equivalent) that has been lost by the effects of wind and sun.
The scales for Daily rain, Barometer and Wind speed are self adjusting. Pointers on the vertical bars indicate the maxima and minima for the day.
The live weather page is updated at 5min. intervals. The historical data page is updated at the beginning of each month. The long term rain average (35 years) for each month is derived from records at Lingwood, which is approx. 2 miles SE from this station.
Comments and suggestions are welcome (admin@blofieldweather.net).
